machu Picchu Part 2

Being able to stand on Machu Picchu is a spiritual experience that no amount of words or photographs will ever be able to capture. All I can say is what it felt like and what I was reminded of. When I first walked onto the grounds, I was completely overwhelmed by how insignificant we all are, yet how we are still a part of something so important and magnificent. We are on this earth for only a quick flicker of time, yet we still create such beautifully intricate lives. We have favorite books and movies, we live in little homes with our families, we find people whose company we enjoy and call them our friends, we laugh and cry and dance and sing and make wonderful memories. Yet we know that a thousand years from now, no one will even remember our names. Standing in the middle of the Andes mountains reminded me how life will always continue to flow this way; how thousands of years ago Machu Picchu did not exist here, and maybe thousands of years from now it won’t exist here either. But in this small slice of life that we get, we are able to experience the incredible and wondrous things that the world has to offer us. I think we should take advantage of this. We should discover our world - its people and culture and places - and always give it back something in return. The things we do here won’t be remembered infinitely, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t matter. We have the power to create beautiful things and to be kinder and more gentle human beings in every moment that passes. We have the power to make our time here meaningful.
